Message from Charles Sawyer
Captain - Senior Golfers Society of the Border
Good afternoon all fellow Seniors,
Firstly I would like to thank all those who attended the above. We as hosts for the event, Border, hoped that every one of you enjoyed your stay in Graaff-Reinet. I would like to thank all those concerned at the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club for helping me organise the two days of golf. A special mention must be made of Johan Danielson, who helped to make sure that everything ran smoothly. Every senior that I spoke was very impressed with the way the golf course was presented to us. All those who look after the course can be very exceptionally pleased of their achievements. Graaff-Reinet has a golf course that they can indeed be proud of. I must also mention the staff in the bar, and all those who helped with the catering. Thank you to our starter, Lyndon Friend, who also took photographs, that have been posted on the Golf Club's website. On both days, playing conditions were perfect. Some good results were achieved, and listed below are all the winners. On both days, the format was a fourball alliance with 2 scores to count on each hole. A special mention to our sponsors: Scottish Leader whisky Fish Eagle Brandy National Finance Brokers S A Breweries for the lucky draw. M an H Bodies for the golf balls for the 2 clubs 26th September. Lucky draw won by Harry Barnes. 2 clubs achieved by: Brian Robinson, Piet Swanepoel, Ian Murray, James Murphy, (all on the 4th) Geoff Pearce, on the 12th, Malcolm Stewart, Norman Kroon, (both on the 15th) Graham Hart on the 13th, and Mike Crosby on the 4th and the 6th In 3rd place on 91 points. Brian Robinson, Russ Victor, Rob Small and Chris Allen In 2nd place on 92 points. Errol Taylor, Ian Collier, Piet Swanepoel, and Bill Shear In 1st place on 94 points. Graham Hart, David Milton, Dave Wilson, and Bill Colston 27th September. Lucky draw won by Jeremy Barton. 2 clubs achieved by: Chris Edwards, Mike Crosby, both on the 4th, Lou Collier on the 4th and 13th, and Peter Leibrandt on the 6th and 13th. In 3rd place on 92 points. Hugh Preston, Mike Vigne, Brian Robinson and David Reed In 2nd place on 93 points. Malcolm Kietzman, Peter Harper, Rob Watt, and Graham Hart In 1st place on 94 points. Piet Moolman, Ian Collier, Bill Shear, and Piet Swanepoel Well played to all the winners. It was decided at a very brief meeting that next year the tournament will be held on the 24th and 25th September at the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club. The Free State Seniors Society will be the hosts. A little story that I found rather amusing. Keith Kieck is well known for his generosity amongst the Border Seniors. He gave the caddie in his covey R20.00 for ‘pin money’. The caddie responded by saying, ‘Dankie Baas’ and gave R10.00 back to Keith!! Thank you all for been there once again. We will see you next year. Those who could not make the trip, make every effort to be there, it’s well worth the trip. Regards, Charles Sawyer. |
